What is infill material?
Infill material is basically silica sand and rubber granules used to infill the grass blades. It basicaly serves two purposes-
It keeps the fibres in the upright position. The sand adds to the weight of the grass carpet, and the rubber granules provide cushioning.

Dried, washed quarts silica sand( 80% round, size 0.3mm - 0.8mm) is used as the first layer of in fill material. The second layer consist of SBR rubber granules( size 0.3 -2.5mm) and acts as cushioning or shock absorbency to meet FIFA- and Critical fall height specifications and standards. During the first months or two the infill meterial will be visible between the grass blades but after the inititial settling period, it becomes less visible.
Many times the question is raised whether the rubber granules is harmful to children if taken orally! Rubber does not tastes good and the child will not go for a second bite. The small size of the granules makes it also difficult to pick up and the child will soon loose interest. No harm will be done if cosumed once or twice. Many tests and studies have been done on the use of rubber crumbs and it was concluded that the rubber does not impose a health risk to eithe childern or players. More can be read here.
Infill material is primarly used on our FT40/50/60 range of grass. Sand only is used to top dress the Oval grass and ND20.The Oval grass is used for sport pitches like cricket, tennis, netball, basketgall and golf putting greens. The ND20 is used on Hockey pitches and multifunction sports pitches for mini soccer, volley ball etc. The sand is brushed into the grass blades and contribute to the speed and bounce of the pitches, i.e. the more sand infill, the faster the ball will come on to the bat. If the pitch is too fast, some of the sand can be removed with a strong blower, or washed out with a water hose.
When the oval is installed as a putting green option, the same rules apply, here the sand will determine the stimp speed of the green. By varing the quantity of sand, the slower or faster the stimp speed of the green will become. Typicaly a putting green constructed with our oval grass stimp speed's range from 6 - 9.
