Synthetic Grass for Hockey Fields

A key factor in the development of an Hockey playing facility is the type of turf used. It determines how enjoyable it is to play or watch the game, the durability of the facility and its cost.

Currently there are only three basic synthetic turf systems used for the construction of hockey playing fields. Sand-Filled System, Sand-Dressed System and the Wet System.

The wet system is generally used for professional and international standard. The San-filled system is not used that often anymore, because it's very abrasive and does not offer a comfortable playing surface. The Sand-dressed system has now become the norm for most schools and clubs, is very durable and offer much more comfort to the players.

The temperature surface of the Sand-dressed system could rise to uncomfortable levels during hot weather and the installation of a watering system should be considered. The Sand-dressed system makes use of ND20 's synthetic grass, and the yarn is manufactured from 100% Thiolon LSR fibrillated, UV.-resistant , knit-d-knit texturized yarn. The approved slide factor(low slide resistance)  requires less water applications.

It is an requirement by the International Hockey Federation that synthetic hockey pitches be laid with a shock-pad as it will help to absorb the impact (dynamic forces) of players running on the surface and reduce the incidence of lower limb injuries.

We install an In-situ pad which is manufactured on site using a hot mix of rubber crumbs, bound with polyurethane. It is laid using a paving machine. The advantage of this system is that the pad can be of variable thickness to even out any imperfections that might be in the level of the underlying base, and can produce a smooth finish on which to lay the synthetic grass.

Repairs to Hockey fields/pitches:-

Loose seams can quickly become a tear of several meters unless quick repair work is undertaken. We do seam repair as well as general repair work on already existing hockey pitches.
